Blessed and Highly Favored, Did You Know?

As we begin to read the book of Luke and the account of the birth of Jesus; there are a few characters who enter before the “big” story unfolds. Luke narrates the amazing story of the birth of Jesus, his infancy and is told from the point of the Virgin Mary.

The initial story begins with Zechariah, Elizabeth, the birth of John the Baptist, oh yes, and an angel. It is important to acknowledge the importance of each person involved. The reason?  Each person plays an important part in the special event about to happen in the life of Mary.

I do hope you will take the time to reread this account, at some point in the days to come.  It begins to unfold in the Gospel of Luke.  All, a beautiful revelation from the Lord.

From the standpoint of many women, we may have made the remark after our last child was born, “No more, unless it is an immaculate conception!” We are smart enough to know, that was not going to happen!

Just imagine Mary being visited by an angel and be told she would be with a child. I am certain this was the last thing on her mind.

We read these words in a couple of places in Luke, “… blessed and highly favored.”  When Elizabeth was found to be with child in her old age, she expresses how the Lord had found favor with her.  For years she had lived in disgrace as a barren woman.  God has now used her life as an example that not only God can do anything, but by exclaiming how the Lord has blessed her and favored her.

When the angel came to Mary he tells her not to be afraid, “for the Lord has found favor in you.”

These are extremely miraculous and important events which now live in our hearts forever, for those of us who believe.

We stand in awe of Elizabeth giving birth at her age. And though she may have pondered the idea, she still believed God would do what His angel had told her husband.

We do not worship Mary, however, we can admire her faith. We can admire how she had the favor of the Lord upon her to bring the Savior of the world to each of us. Which stands to remind us that the Lord can and will use us to do amazing things by faith in Him, not our capabilities. Only He grants us the gifts to change the world, in His name.

So here is my take away…We won’t ever be called to the task of bringing God’s flesh and blood Son into the world.
However, we ARE blessed and highly favored in the eyes of God.  There is nothing we can’t do when we have faith in know God has called each of us to walk this earth as disciples for Him.

We don’t have to be ordained ministers. We only need a willing heart and the faith to step out and say, “Here I am, Lord”.  Just pray and speak these words, “Use me Lord, to make a difference in this world, because I KNOW I AM LOVED, BLESSED AND HIGHLY FAVORED.”  He has a purpose for each of us and why would we waste the blessing and favor He has for each of us?

I don’t know about you, but I don’t wish to get to heaven knowing I missed something on earth God wanted me to do, and I ignored it.  Many times in my life I have said, “Nah, I can’t do that.”  But I am happy to say there also were many instances in my life when I believed He called me, and He saw me through it! Never forget those moments and be in awe of all God can do with the unlikely.  Unlikely?  I truly doubt it! Not when we believe He sees each of us, “Blessed and highly favored!”

When Mary was born I am certain she had no clue how God would use her.

Reminds me of the song, “Mary, did you know?”
Have you ever had a “did you know moment”?  I have and I acknowledged God’s blessing and favor and sang His praises for the honor.

Wednesday Whispers:  “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, since I am a virgin?”  The angel answered, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you.”

“Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will one day walk on water?
Mary did you know
That your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know?
That your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you’ve delivered
Will soon deliver YOU!”
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand
Did you know?
That your baby has walked where angels trod?
And when you kiss your little baby
You’ve kissed the face of God?
Mary, did you know?
The blind will see
The deaf will hear
And the dead will live again
The lame will leap
The dumb will speak
The praises of the Lamb
Mary did you know
That your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary did you know
That your baby boy will one day rule the nations?
Did you know??
That your baby boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb?
This sleeping child you’re holding

Oh, Mary, did you know?

Merry Christmas to each and every one of you.  Thank you for blessing me and trusting me to write Wednesday Whispers each week, just for you! May this Christmas be the time when you realize, just how blessed and favored you truly are. His gift to us was Jesus, our gift to Him? To know Him and share Him with your life.  I love you!
